combined orthodontics & jaw surgery
What is surgical orthodontics?
Surgical orthodontics, also called orthognathic surgery, is used for treating severe cases of jaw bone abnormalities and malocclusions (bad bites). We are proud to offer combined orthodontic and surgical management of severe skeletal discrepancies to our patients.
If you require surgical orthodontics to improve your bite or facial harmony, we will work closely with expert oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the area to obtain the smile that you deserve.
How do I know if I need surgical orthodontics?
Orthognathic surgery is necessary when the jaws do not line up correctly and braces or Invisalign alone cannot correct the misalignment. Many complex cases can be treated without the need for jaw surgery, so it is important to discuss your case with your orthodontist as well as with an oral surgeon so that you can understand all of the treatment options available to you.
Are braces required for surgical orthodontics?
The answer to this question a few years ago was absolutely yes. Times are changing, however, and technology is advancing. Invisalign can now often be used in conjunction with jaw surgery instead of traditional braces! We are excited to offer this new cutting edge treatment option to our patients.
Is jaw surgery really worth it?
We understand that the thought of undergoing a jaw surgery is very scary for most people. But time and time again, we see patient’s looking back at their smile journey with a positive outlook. We can honestly say, the final results will be well worth it! We have treated many patients in our practice over the years with this approach, and we love seeing how the final outcome can have such an uplifting effect on a patient’s self-confidence.
